We arrived at 10 a.m. and had to wait until 3 p.m. to get into our
room. That is the policy. We walked the gardens and sat in the shade
and waited. Finally we waited indoors and when we did we realized that
it was so much cooler outside. There was no air conditioning in the
main hall. Thankfully the rooms were done at 2 p.m. and we were
quickly settled in our room. A very nice room in fact, with a large
window overlooking a fountain and side courtyard and it had its own
bathroom. Now that was a find!
My Trip to Arthur Findlay College
Stansted, England - Summer 2006
Part 1(page2) of 4
We were hoping that once we were in our rooms we could get some sleep,
at least for a couple of hours before dinner. Oh boy, were we wrong!
At 4 p.m. "Tea", we met our fellow students and at 4:30 we had to be in
the assembly hall to meet with our teachers. When they say intensive,
they mean intensive, very intensive.
That first late afternoon meeting was fun and informative. We got to
know our teachers and the rules and regulations of Stansted Hall. We
were also given paperwork to fill out, this dealt with why we were
attending the course and what we expected out of it. They also needed
information on what exposure to Spirit we had in the past. We did not
realize it then, but much of this information is used in placement with
a teacher and the level of teaching that would be given. Friends or
spouses are separated for various reasons and this worked out well.
Dinner, yes it was still Saturday and we had been up over 30 hours and
did need rest and nourishment. Promptly at 6 p.m. we were led into the
dining room. Everything was served family style and the first night
was a cold buffet, called "Cattlemen's Buffet". The food was extremely
hearty and very good with several types of meats and salads. Desert
was always the crowning touch and our favorite. I got use to poring
heavy cream over every desert, as they use it in England, whether it
was supposed to have it or not. I truly enjoyed the food for the two
weeks we were there.
After dinner hour, which lasted until 7:30 p.m., our group had a guided
meditation and lecture the teachers from 7:30 to 9:00 and by 9:10 pm
Patti and I were in bed sound asleep.
Fountain Outside Our Room
One of the main streets in Bishops Storford, England.
The next day we were refreshed and ready to start our day. We had
breakfast and that was the only time we actually went to breakfast
because there was just too much food. How do those English stay so
thin? They definitely do not eat at Arthur Findlay College!
There was an electric teapot in our room for tea, coffee or hot
chocolate which came in very handy. I would make the tea, put it in an
insulated bottle then place it on the windowsill overnight. I would
have "almost" iced tea in the morning. Once the Pub opened at 9 pm
every evening, I would order a glass of ice for my homemade iced tea,
which made it very refreshing.
On Monday we skipped lunch and went to the local town called
Bishops-Stortford. This was a large town, to us like a little city.
Many buildings were older and some were refurbished. The train stops
there, as it does at every town including villages like
Stansted-Mansfield. We both purchased fans at Bishops Stortford as
did many of the students. Stansted Hall had air conditioning only in
the Library, Assembly Hall and Large Lounge, and the month of July of
2006 was much hotter than normal in this part of England.
Inside our own bathroom, "Quite Efficient"!
Our room was very neat and clean. We were also lucky enough to have
our own bathroom. Most single rooms and some double and triple rooms
have a communal bathroom. Spirit blessed us by giving us a wonderful
room with our own facilities. All rooms are on the second and third
floor. Some are really small according to American stanards, yet some
were very roomy. We were lucky enough to be able to see for ourselves
some of our new friend's rooms at Stansted Hall. They were all lovedly
in their own special way.
Stansted Hall also has a gift shop; it was here we bought our cold
water daily. The gift shop carries a good selection of tapes, pictures
and information on Arthur Findlay College as well as trinkets of
interest of a metaphysical nature. We shopped every day because new
merchandise arrived daily.
Now this is the end of the beginning of my story of Stansted Hall and
Arthur Findlay College. Hopefully, you enjoyed my description and the
pictures. In my upcoming segments I will tell you a little of my
experiences, with my teachers, the Mediumship they did on and off the
podium and some of the experiments I participated in.
